The Best Breakfast Spots In Valle De Guadalupe

by Kristie B. & Kara S.    5 min. read

Nothing says “Good Morning” better than a delicious breakfast. The food in Valle de Guadalupe is fantastic; therefore, you should take advantage of every dining opportunity you have, starting with breakfast. So, where should you go to tide you over for a full day of wine tasting and adventures? Below we have listed our picks for the best early morning meals in Valle de Guadalupe.

Our top 7 Breakfast Recommendations

Doña Esthela - Award-winning; an authentic local favorite

If you want the best breakfast in Valle de Guadalupe, then Dona Esthela Restaurant is the spot. Follow the bumpy, dirt road back to this famous restaurant located in owner Esthela Bueno’s home. Dona Esthela won the award for “Best Breakfast in the World” in 2015 by FoodieHub, an international culinary guide from foodies and travelers worldwide. The menu item that earned voters’ attention was the machaca con huevos (meat with eggs) platter. But, the house specialty is her birria de res (meat stew), and it’s only served on weekends when all the tourists show up hungry and ready to devour this delicious food.

Esthela wakes up every day at the crack of dawn to prepare for visitors and plans the entire menu herself. It’s evident that family helps run the restaurant because everyone seems to feel like extended family immediately after being seated. The clay plates and mugs create a casual feel, and ordering a steaming cup of cafe de la olla will add the comfort of dining at home. Every ingredient for the menu comes from her garden and farm or is sourced locally.

As the restaurant grows and changes, Esthela notes her family and her love for cooking will always remain the secret ingredient to the world’s best breakfast dish.

Tip: Be sure to show up early (before 9) to avoid large crowds. Given the popularity of both tourists and locals, always expect a short wait. The food is worth the delay, and guests are welcome to relax on the porch rocking chairs or browse stands of local, handmade jewelry while waiting. Don’t miss the opportunity to stand at the open-air grill and observe the tortilla-making process. Get a better appreciation for how much hard work and love goes into hand-making each delicious tortilla. Reservations are highly recommended, but not required.

Mixtura - Mexican-Mediterranean Brunch Menu outside in a hip, energetic setting

Every morning Chef Viviana Martinez selects all of the ingredients to be prepared for the day including seafood, meats, vegetables, and greens. Every product used in her kitchen is seasonal, therefore changes and slight variations in the menu can occur based on the availability of ingredients. She has described her food as a reflection of her Baja Californian soul-exquisite, yet down-to-earth and honest. The Bubbles & Brunch menu is Mexican, French, and American inspiration and includes diverse options from chilaquiles to pancakes and crepes.

The country tables are set to enjoy the countryside views and most of the courses are created to be able to share. You will find the food is simple, but always rich and full of flavor. The busy open kitchen, the DJ playing electronic music, and the mixologist crafting your cocktails create a cool, contemporary setting with energetic vibes.

Tip: Brunch & Bubbles is reservations only on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 4 pm. Happy Hour is Saturday & Sunday, 11 am – 1 pm. The dining area is completely outdoors, so keep this in mind for colder weather and rainy season.

Rated one of the best breakfast spots in Valle, definitely, plan to visit Hacienda Guadalupe Restaurante. Across the road from the wine museum in Valle de Guadalupe, located at the Hacienda Hotel. Staff is friendly, service is top-notch and the views from the patio are quite picturesque.

The menu is designed with the traditional comforts of home in mind. Pancakes, scrambled eggs with chorizo, chilaquiles, and bacon are all winning choices. Compliment breakfast with a delicious fresh juice. A perfect start to the day is a morning meal overlooking the valley and vineyards at Hacienda Guadalupe.

Like Dona Esthela, the restaurant is also a favorite for locals seeking homemade, authentic food. Quiet and quaint, it’s hard to tell the open-air restaurant is right next to a busy highway—a great spot to stop on the way to wineries or to the Tecate border crossing.

As the name suggests, Huevito Republic serves a variety of egg dishes with a Mexican flair. Omelets are always a favorite, especially when ordered with chorizo. The chilaquiles are absolutely amazing, and the steak and eggs are served in portions that can easily be shared. Aside from eggs, pancakes are a must-try and can be added to every order – soft, fluffy, and moist are a local favorite. Fresh avocado and queso fresco are delicious extras, and the potatoes and bean side dishes never disappoint.

Tip: The restaurant opens early at 7 am and closes by 2 pm (Sundays closes at 3 pm). Open Mondays. Good spot for kids and groups. Reservations are recommended, but not required.

Located inside Contemplacion Hotel is a casual, outdoor restaurant called Salvia Blanca. While the chefs achieve their goal of showcasing their creativity through unique flavors and ideas, their primary mission is to encourage shareable dishes and create a space for people to connect over food.

The breakfast menu is magnificent and has something for everyone. It features classic options like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, omelets, and enchiladas and dishes like picaditas, memela, and pancakes. The pancakes are topped with bananas, and you can choose an extra garnish of an egg, bacon, or ham. They are incredibly thick, perfectly fluffy, and almost too good to be true. The menu also includes lighter breakfast options such as fruit plate, avocado toast, and muesli bowl. You will be satisfied with whatever you choose, but we recommend always getting at least one order of the yummy pancakes – even if it is to share with the entire table.

Tip: Open 8 am – 11:30 am closed on Tuesday. Breakfast is complimentary for Contemplacion hotel guests.

If you are looking for a unique breakfast experience, you should try and reserve a seat at Tru’s breakfast table. Each morning, Tru Miller, the first female to own and operate a winery in Baja and lovingly nicknamed “Valle’s Godmother of wine,” sits down at her kitchen table to enjoy breakfast made with fresh ingredients from her garden and farm.

The menu always contains fresh fruit, coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice followed by a traditional Mexican breakfast entree. The egg dishes are made from the vineyard’s chickens and the homemade salsas, guacamole, and beans are spectacular. You will find the kitchen’s dutch shoe collection, colorful dishes, unique pottery, fresh flowers, and rustic table are all details that create a European charm and enhance the setting of this delicious meal.

Tip: Breakfast with Tru is complimentary for guests of Adobe Guadalupe Inn. If you are not staying at the Inn, please contact Adobe Guadalupe to inquire about the limited availability of this exclusive breakfast experience.
