Vena Cava

Valle de Guadalupe

A boutique and hip vineyard

Located in the heart of Valle de Guadalupe sits one of the most visited wineries of the area, Vena Cava. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and rows and rows of grapes, Vena Cava is focused on creating quality wine, often creating small batches at a time. With no real importance set on quantity, Vena Cava is more of a boutique winery, offering bespoke experiences for those with discerning tastes.

Founded in 2005 by Eileen and Phil Gregory, Vena Cava vineyard is part of La Villa de Valle Group and the winery is an ore of a passion project where the owners share their passions with the rest of the world.

The winemaker at this prestigious winery is Phil Gregory and he’s known for some of the best wines in the region. His secret lies in how he sources the best grapes from a wide assortment of vineyards in various valleys, including his very own organic vineyard located in Vena Cava’s robust property. Gregory is very “respectful” of his grapes and goes above and beyond to ensure the best grapes for his award-wining wines. The grapes are grown using organic farming methods, without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides.

While the wines are impeccable and outstanding, the winery’s architectural design is a sight to behold. Designed by Alejandro D’Acosta, the winery demands attention thanks to its bespoke, unusual design that’s built using reclaimed fishing boats and other recycling materials that have been transformed into something magnificent.

Considered “the hippest winery in Mexico,” architect D’Acosta was commissioned to create a space that would not only be unique but also provide a visual experience for visitors looking to feast their tastes and eyes on something different from the norm.

The entire Vena Cava winery also incorporates colors and shapes reminiscent of the region’s natural landscape, allowing the winery to seamlessly blend with its surroundings. Anything but your ordinary winery, Vena Cava vineyard prides itself on its uniqueness.

From its interesting design, award-winning wine selections and overall ambiance, a visit here is a definite must when visiting Valle de Guadalupe. Visitors can choose from a variety of wine tasting options, with basic and regular popular tasting choices. Premium tastings include a delicious cheese-paring platter and require a reservation of a minimum of six guests.

Our Recommendation

TROIKA FOOD TRUCK

One of the many reasons why this winery is always buzzing with tourists is due to Troika – food truck (named after the Russian word for a food cart,) offering delectable cuisine that pairs quite nicely with Vena Cava’s wine offerings.

The permanent on-site food truck boasts a desirable menu, in addition to a vast selection of local craft beers for guests not particularly fond of wine. But unlike traditional food trucks where you order at a window, Troika offers tableside service, allowing you to sit and relax as soak in the winery’s amazing views, which includes a peaceful pond that features a cool breeze and charming ducks and turtles.
