The Perfect Guide to Exploring Mexico’s Wine Country with the Girls

WHERE TO STAY

If you’re willing to splurge on accommodations with your girl gang, la Villa Del Valle is perfect. You and the ladies will feel like celebs in this private, lux villa. With decor, views, and amenities to die for, this private sanctuary is only 20 minutes from the main road and is perched on a hilltop surrounded by the vineyards. The warm breeze, lovely pool, panoramic views, olive groves, and gorgeous lavender are things all girls dream about. They have a winery and farm-to-table restaurant, so you won’t even need to leave this peaceful haven if you don’t want to.

Cuatro Cuatros is a fun stay if you’ve never been “glamping.” The trendy and chic lodging might have you staying in tents, but your experience will be anything but roughing it. This luxury accommodation features spacious tents, plush bedding, a heater and air conditioner, and a bathroom (with an indoor/outdoor shower). There’s also an on-site winery and winery, cliffside bar, and fun activities like hiking and ziplining.

WHERE TO WINE TASTE

To see sweeping views of Valle de Guadalupe, head over to Las Nubes winery, which means clouds because it sits on high a hillside providing the feeling of floating in the sky. You’ll be amazed when you look out across the magnificent valley and see the vast landscape – a stunning setting for a perfect picture with the girls. Their classic tasting is a great way to sample their delicious wines, don’t forget to order some tapas to complement your tasting.

Another Valle de Guadalupe winery to check out is Vena Cava. The unique feature of this winery is that the tasting room is set in a “cave” under recycled boats, with a lounge area outside if sipping vino al fresco is more up your alley. You might meet the owner on any given day, which personalizes the experience.

Make sure that Lechuza Vineyard is on your wine tasting list because you and your girls will love the chill and laid-back ambiance. The vineyard sort of feels like you are drinking fine wine in someone’s posh backyard, giving you that comfy feel. The casual vibes perfectly sums up Valle’s overall casual atmosphere. It’s good to note that Lechuza’s wines are so good that they’re on renowned Napa restaurant The French Laundry’s wine list.

A visit to one of Valle’s oldest wineries merits a visit by you and your girls, so have Monte Xanic on your wine tasting list. This stunning facility is amazing to look at while the wines are some of the best in Valle. The tasting bar is the perfect place to enjoy their sophisticated reds and whites, or on the patio overlooking the lake if the weather is nice and cool.

WHERE TO HAVE A DRINK

After a full day of visiting vineyards, it’s finally time to take a break from wine and enjoy a cocktail. Golden hour, that magic period just before sunset, is a perfect time to head over to the ever-popular, Bar Bura and watch the sun disappear below the horizon. Bar Bura, a fabulous sunset bar, sits high on a cliff overlooking the ocean with incredible views of the Baja coast.

A favorite spot for locals and tourists alike, you will want to make a reservation to ensure a good seat. It is located at Cuatro Cuatros vineyard and a bit off the beaten path, so make sure you give yourself sufficient time to arrive, park, and take the shuttle bus up the mountain to the bar. A bit of a process, but worth it for this memorable experience with the girls and photo opportunity.

If the group is up for a nightcap then head over to Casa Frida. The concept is a tribute to famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and an opportunity to enjoy art, passion, and architecture with the girls as you sit, sip and recap the day.

WHERE TO EAT

The food at Finca Altozano is also very impressive and a must-visit on your girl’s trip to Valle de Guadalupe. The restaurant is beautifully designed and features varied seating areas that are scattered throughout the space. There is even seating on top of huge wine barrels, which makes for great photos, too. The food is just as impressive as the design and priced reasonably, making a trip here worth your while. This is the perfect spot to get dolled up and have a delicious meal because the atmosphere is more dressy than other casual spots in the valley.

Fauna is sure to be the favorite spot to take the girls for an incredible dinner. This chic, hip, restaurant was awarded “Mexico’s Restaurant of the Year 2020” and everything from the service, to the atmosphere, to food is on point. The creative dishes by chef David Hussong are not only beautiful but also delicious. The girls are sure to dig this upscale restaurant with a casual vibe. Arrive early and enjoy a glass of wine at the Bruma tasting room, or stay late and have a Carajillo nightcap under the stars in the garden patio. Be sure to make reservations as soon as possible so you don’t miss a chance to experience Fauna.

Girls love their brunch and bubbly, so if you are visiting on a weekend then reservations for brunch at Mixtura is a must. This hip spot has everything you want and more – chic ambiance, comfortable seating, fabulous bar, mixologist on staff, scenic views, and top-notch food. The brunch menu is a combination of Mexican, French, and American inspiration and has diverse options from chilaquiles to pancakes and crepes. Cheers!
